OCD, FOOD, EXERCISE
This is a little about my experience in overcoming OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) without the help of any therapy or medicine.
I discovered --believe it or not -- that certain foods force disturbing thoughts on you, as well as irrational behaviours.
Whether the foods that affect me will also affect you or are affecting you, I don't know. But you can find out. Keep a notebook where you enter the foods you have eaten and your subsequent mood. You will soon see that there is a connection.
Remember that the effect of a food or drink is more pronounced if it is consumed on an empty stomach, or on a regular basis or taken in large quantities at a time.
Watch out too for disturbing dreams, for food sensitivity is not confined only to the waking hours. When you have had such a dream, just ask yourself this question: What did I have for dinner yesterday?
Here are the offending foods on my list:
Honey, malt, pineapple, papaw, guava, salt, honey-melon, grapes, tea, coffee, apples, pears, carrots, cocoa, lemon, sunflower seeds, and fermented milk products like yoghurt...
Some experts are of the opinion that the underlying cause of the problem is hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) and that the treatment of this would eliminate the need to avoid any foodstuff.
The second thing I discovered (and this is not disputed by mental health workers) is that physical exercise of any kind calms the brain. However, in my experience, the effect of exercise is diminished if you are eating the wrong kind of food.
